Alstom bags ₹1,285 crore supply and maintenance contract for Vande Bharat Sleeper Trains

New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): Alstom, a global leader in sustainable and smart mobility solutions, has been awarded a significant €144 million (approximately INR 1285 crore) contract to supply cutting-edge Mitrac traction components and essential electrical equipment for 17 Vande Bharat Sleeper trainsets, comprising 408 cars. This major contract, awarded by Indian Railways, includes a comprehensive maintenance agreement for the next five years, covering preventive and corrective servicing of the supplied equipment at various railway depots across the country.

The components will be engineered and manufactured at Alstom’s local facilities in India, including its Savli, Coimbatore, and Maneja sites. The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, designed for speeds up to 180 km/h with an operational speed of 160 km/h, are a key element of India’s evolving rail infrastructure. Alstom’s robust local manufacturing capabilities and maintenance services will ensure the efficient and long-term performance of these state-of-the-art trains.

The contract will be executed primarily at the Maneja site, which has been operational since 1996 and plays a critical role in Alstom's local and export projects. Prototype deliveries are slated to begin by August 2026, followed by serial production starting in 2027. Maintenance services will commence in 2029 after the completion of the warranty period.
