Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Ceigall India achieved a significant milestone on Monday morning by erecting the first of 121 pier caps for Package KNPCC-12 of Kanpur Metro’s Line-2. This crucial step marks the beginning of the elevated construction phase for the 8.38-kilometer line, which will link Agriculture University to Barra-8.
The initial pier cap was installed in the ramp area adjacent to the Agriculture College Metro Station and the Agriculture College Depot. The depot itself is being developed under Package KNPCC-14 by K.S.M. Bashir Mohd. And Sons.
Ceigall India commenced the casting of the 9.5-meter-wide pier caps in June 2024. By July, the company had advanced to casting 27.90-meter U-girders at their production yard located in the Hanspuram neighborhood of Naubasta (view location on Google Maps).
Contract and Project Scope
The contract for Package KNPCC-12, valued at ₹427.11 crore, was awarded to Ceigall India by the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) in March 2024. The project is scheduled for completion within 30 months.
Package KNPCC-12 encompasses two distinct elevated sections on either side of the underground Package KNPCC-11, which involves the construction of the Agriculture Depot and Double Pullia Ramp. The latter package was awarded to the KPIL – Gulermak JV in December 2023.
Project Breakdown
Significance and Progress
This milestone was achieved in less than six months from the contract award, reflecting a rapid pace of progress similar to that demonstrated by other contractors on the Kanpur Metro project. Afcons Infrastructure’s performance on Line-1’s operational Package KNPCC-02R and JMC Projects’ (KPIL) work on Package KNPCC-07 also set high benchmarks for efficiency.
This milestone underscores Ceigall India's commitment to advancing the Kanpur Metro project and brings the city closer to an enhanced public transport system that will significantly improve connectivity.
