CMRS Completes Safety Inspection for Bangalore Metro's Byappanahalli-KR Pura Stretch

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): A significant milestone has been achieved for Bangalore Metro's eagerly awaited Byappanahalli-KR Pura (Purple Line) section as the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS) completed the statutory inspection on September 21.

CMRS (Southern Circle) AM Choudhary and his team embarked on a thorough inspection, covering various components crucial for ensuring passenger safety. This included a close examination of the tracks, the third rail, a 65-meter open-web girder bridge, viaduct, and bearings along the 2.1-kilometer stretch.

During the comprehensive day-long inspection, Choudhary and his team also assessed the functionality and safety of the lift, escalator, and other amenities at Benniganahalli station. Platform clearance and various safety parameters were meticulously checked.

CMRS is expected to submit a report by September 25, with approval likely subject to certain conditions. Following this milestone, the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) will engage with both the Union and state governments to finalize a date for the commencement of commercial operations on the Byappanahalli-KR Pura section.

"The statutory safety inspection of the newly-constructed line between Byappanahalli to KR Pura Metro stations was successfully completed," confirmed BL Yeshwanth Chavan, CPRO (BMRCL) in a statement.

BMRCL Managing Director Anjum Parwez stated, "It will take another six to seven days to meet the conditions set by CMRS to begin commercial operations. We will be ready to start passenger services from September 29."

However, it is worth noting that the CMRS inspection for the Kengeri-Challaghatta section has been delayed. Initially, BMRCL had planned to commence operations on both the Byappanahalli-KR Pura and Kengeri-Challaghatta (2 km) sections simultaneously. Yet, CMRS has yet to announce the inspection date for the Kengeri-Challaghatta (2-km) section.

The successful CMRS inspection marks a significant step forward in enhancing Bengaluru's metro connectivity and is eagerly anticipated by commuters in the region.
