Jaipur Metro to start work on Phase 1 Extension soon, DPR of Phase 2 is ready

Jaipur, India (Metro Rail Today): During a program held recently by Rajasthan Housing Board, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has said that the remaining two extension works for Line 1 of Jaipur Metro Rail Project will start soon. The clearance for these two projects is lying with the finance department since mid-July.

“I know that Line 1 of Jaipur Metro needs to be extended. Soon the extension work will get started,” said Gehlot. “I know the second metro line from Sitapura is also important. We would definitely construct that metro line as well,” he added.

The chief minister also stated that he wants to extend Metro services even the suburbs of the city under its Phase 2. “Our focus is to extend these metro lines, if possible, even to the suburb of the cities like Chomu or Chaksu,” he said.

To speed up the work, Chief Minister has approved Rs 993.51 crore for the state budget 2022-23.

Presently, Jaipur Metro runs from Mansarovar to Badi Choupar. On the Badi Chopar side the line would be extended for another 2.85km till Transport Nagar and on the Mansarovar side it would be extended till Ajmer Road for another 1.3km.

With this, the Line 1 would be 15.65km long from the present stretch of 11.4 km.

The Jaipur metro officials, however, are apprehensive about the future of these extension projects. They claimed, it might be difficult to execute these projects, if new government comes to power.

"While it took less than 4 years to construct the 9.5km stretch of Line 1, it took more than five years to extend it for another 2.4km. This is because the BJP government did not show interest in the extension projects. We apprehend that a same situation can take place even with present extension projects,” said an official, ET quoted.

The work from Line 2 of Jaipur Metro that would connect Sitapura to Ambabari has not been started yet.

Apart from this, the detailed project report (DPR) of Phase 2 corridor that conenct India Gate and Ambabari will run 23.5km and cost Rs 4,546 crore is also submitted to the central government for review and approval.

The corridor will be 23.51km having 21 elevated stations. This corridor will connect different areas like Sitapura Industrial Area, Shatabdi Nagar, Pratap Nagar, Sanganer, Sitabari, Bapu Nagar, Rambagh, C Scheme, Chandpole, Bani Park, Sirampura, Ambabari, Prominent hospitals like SMS Hospital, Apollo Spectra, Zanana and also connects Jaipur International Airport.

After terminating the contract of French company EGIS Rail SA, the Jaipur Metro Rail Corporation (JMRC) appointed Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) for reviewing the revised DPR and bringing down the cost. According to revised DPR submitted by DMRC, the Phase 2 will cost about Rs 4,546 crore instead of Rs 9,500 crore mentioned in the original DPR.
