Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): YFC Projects – BBG Infrastructure JV has been declared as the only bidder for Package C-09 of the Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, according to an announcement from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (Maha Metro) on 12th November 2024.
Package C-09 involves the construction of eight elevated metro stations on the Orange Line’s Reach-1A, which is part of the 43.8 km Phase 2 extension of the Nagpur Metro. The stations to be constructed under this package are:
This section of the metro line is vital for connecting key areas in the city, enhancing urban mobility and offering a faster, eco-friendly mode of transport. The construction of these stations will be linked to the larger work of building the viaduct in Package C-02, which was awarded to GR Infraprojects (GRIL) in October 2024 for ₹903.53 crore. GRIL’s contract includes constructing a double-decker viaduct, which will be an integral part of the infrastructure for the Orange Line.
The construction of the C-09 package is part of the broader Nagpur Metro Phase 2 project, which is funded through a USD 200 million loan from the Asian Development Bank (ADB). This loan was approved in July 2024, emphasizing the importance of the project in enhancing urban mobility and infrastructure in Nagpur. The Rs. 258 crore estimated cost for Package C-09 reflects the scale and scope of this critical phase of the project.
MAHA-METRO had invited bids for Package C-09 in April 2024, with an estimated cost of Rs. 258 crore and a 2.5-year completion deadline. With YFC Projects – BBG Infrastructure JV being the only bidder, the next steps will depend on MAHA-METRO's evaluation of the technical bid. If the bid is deemed satisfactory, the JV will proceed to the next phase of the contract. However, if MAHA-METRO is not satisfied with the single bid, the contract may go for a re-tendering process.
This development follows a similar trend in previous tenders for Nagpur Metro Phase 2, where multiple packages have seen low bid participation, prompting authorities to carefully review and sometimes reinitiate the tendering process.
In April 2024, Enia Design was declared the lowest bidder for the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) contract DDC-03 for these same eight stations under Package C-09. This follows a multi-layered approach to the project, with design consultants, contractors, and system suppliers working together to ensure the project meets its development goals.
The Nagpur Metro Phase 2 expansion is a key part of the city’s long-term vision to address growing traffic congestion, reduce pollution, and improve overall urban mobility. The construction of the eight elevated stations under Package C-09 will play a significant role in enhancing connectivity, particularly for residents of Ashokvan, Dongargaon, and surrounding areas.
As the bid evaluation progresses, MAHA-METRO will likely review the offer from YFC-BBG JV in the coming weeks. If all goes as planned, the construction of these stations will begin soon, marking another milestone in the rapid development of Nagpur Metro Phase 2.
