Indore, India (Metro Rail Today):  The metro trial run for the 5.9 km-long stretches of Indore Metro's Ring Line (Yellow Line) will be commenced by September 2023, said a senior official.

Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MPMRCL) managing director Nikunj Shrivastava held a meeting with public representatives and local administration. “The progress of the Indore metro rail project is good. We are confident that we will conduct the trial run on the 5.9 high-priority corridors by September next year,” Shrivastava told reporters on Thursday.

During the meeting it was decided that the work will be expedited, and only two out of 29 metro stations will be constructed underground as per the need, he said.

French Rolling Stock firm Alstom Transport has been awarded a contract worth Rs 3,200 crore for the supply of 3-coach 52 train sets for the Bhopal & Indore Metro Rail Projects. Out of 27 train sets will be supplied for the Bhopal Metro and the remaining 25 train sets will be supplied to Indore Metro Rail Project. The contract package includes the installation of the latest signaling & train control system in the train.

According to Alstom, all coaches will be manufactured at Alstom's Savli Coach Facility under the 'Make in India' initiative of Govt. of India.

It was earlier proposed that six stations out of 29 be constructed underground.

The foundation stone for the first phase of the metro rail project was laid on September 14, 2019. The metro rail project on the 31.55 km-long route is being constructed at an estimated cost of Rs 7,500.84 crore.
