Odisha Govt. allocates ₹1000 crore for Bhubaneswar Metro Rail Project

Bhubaneshwar, India (Metro Rail Today): Urban infrastructure in Odisha received a significant boost with the state government allocating ₹9,603 crore for urban transformation in the 2024-25 budget. A major highlight is the Bhubaneswar metro project, which has been granted Rs 1,000 crore to facilitate its development.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi emphasized the importance of this state-of-the-art rapid rail system, which aims to create seamless, efficient, and sustainable urban mobility. In its first phase, the metro will connect Biju Patnaik International Airport in Bhubaneswar with Trisulia Square in Cuttack by 2027. This phase of the project is estimated to cost ₹6,256 crore.

In addition to the Bhubaneswar metro project, the state government has allocated funds for several other urban development initiatives:

• New City Development Project: ₹918 crore
• Unnati Scheme: ₹606 crore for the development of smart cities and promotion of digital infrastructure.
• Urban Water Supply (Basudha): ₹357 crore
• Urban Sanitation: ₹380 crore
• Urban Sewerage Scheme: ₹214 crore
• Urban Road Transport and CRUT Services Expansion: ₹200 crore
• Improvement of Urban Governance: ₹606 crore

Chief Minister Majhi stated that the metro project is a cornerstone of the government’s urban transformation initiatives. The aim is to create a modern, efficient urban transport system that will contribute to the overall development and economic growth of the region.

The allocation of ₹1,000 crore for the Bhubaneswar metro project marks a significant step forward in the state’s urban transformation agenda. With substantial investments in various urban infrastructure projects, the government aims to enhance the quality of life for residents and create a more connected, efficient urban environment.
