Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is poised to lay the foundation stone for the AIIMS Rewari project at Majra Bhalkhi village on February 16. This announcement comes from officials well-versed in the matter, who also revealed that Modi will digitally inaugurate seven to eight other crucial projects in Haryana, prominently featuring the long-awaited Gurugram Metro project.
Government insiders shared that a parallel event will unfold in Gurugram, allowing citizens to witness the foundation stone-laying ceremony on a large screen. "The program will be telecast live, and arrangements will be made for the public to sit and watch the foundation stone-laying ceremony of Rewari AIIMS and the Gurugram Metro, while also listening to PM Modi's address," stated one official.
Gurugram's Deputy Commissioner, Nishant Yadav, emphasized the importance of the Gurugram metro project, calling it a longstanding demand of the city's residents. He expressed confidence that the metro extension would integrate the old city into the metro route, marking a significant leap in public transportation.
The Union cabinet, under Modi's leadership, approved the Gurugram Metro extension project on June 7, 2023. The ambitious plan involves extending the metro from Huda City Metro station (now known as Millennium City Centre Metro station) to Cyber Hub, creating a 26.65-km loop encompassing the entirety of old Gurugram. Additionally, a 1.85-km spur to the Dwarka Expressway was also given the green light.
Haryana's government, on January 25 of this year, took a pivotal step by approving the formation of Gurugram Metro Rail Ltd. This joint venture between the Haryana government and the Government of India is tasked with executing the metro extension project, with a whopping cost estimate of ₹5,452 crore.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates these transformative projects, Gurugram is on the brink of a new era in transportation. The Gurugram Metro, a testament to responsive governance, and the AIIMS Rewari project, a beacon of advanced healthcare, together mark a significant stride towards comprehensive development. The impact of these initiatives is bound to reshape the landscape of Gurugram, enhancing the lives of its residents.
