Sam India commences construction work on Chennai Metro Corridor 3

Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Sam India Builtwell, a prominent player in the construction industry, has recently embarked on a significant project in Chennai, marking a pivotal moment in the city's infrastructure development. The endeavor entails the construction of a crucial segment of the Chennai Metro Line-3, stretching over 45.4 kilometers and linking Madhavaram Milk Colony to SIPCOT through a network of 49 strategically located stations.

In a ceremony held at the Indira Nagar Station, Sam India commenced the groundbreaking for Package UG05-RT-01, signaling the commencement of underground construction activities. This event, attended by dignitaries from Rail Vikas Nigam (RVNL) and Chennai Metro Rail Ltd. (CMRL), marked the official initiation of construction activities for this vital transportation artery. Sam India, entrusted with the responsibility of executing all underground station works, symbolizes a crucial partnership in the realization of the ambitious Chennai Metro Phase 2 project.

Following traditional rituals, Sam India wasted no time in deploying cutting-edge technology, exemplified by the Schwing-XCMG trench cutter machine, to initiate the intricate process of constructing the diaphragm wall (D-wall) around the Indira Nagar Station. This advanced machinery signifies the fusion of tradition and modernity, encapsulating the ethos of Chennai's evolving landscape.

The contract for Package UG05-RT01, valued at Rs. 665.99 crore, was initially awarded to RVNL by CMRL in July 2023, with a deadline spanning 1725 days. Subsequently, RVNL entrusted Sam India Builtwell with the execution of construction activities, reflecting a strategic collaboration aimed at expediting the project's timeline. This comprehensive package encompasses the entire civil work at three stations, alongside partial works at another station and a crucial ramp facilitating connectivity to Line-3's elevated section towards Sholinganallur and SIPCOT.

The scope of work encapsulates the construction of underground stations at Adyar Depot, Indira Nagar, and Taramani Road Junction, in addition to the construction of a ramp and associated works, excluding the diaphragm wall, at Thiruvanmiyur Metro Station. This delineation underscores the meticulous planning and attention to detail essential for the successful execution of such a complex infrastructure endeavor.

RVNL's successful bid for three station packages (UG03-RT01, UG04-RT01, UG05-RT01), comprising a total of 16 stations between KMC and Taramani Road Junction, underscores the concerted efforts towards enhancing Chennai's transportation network. With Larsen & Toubro already undertaking tunneling work to interlink these stations since February 2023, the collective momentum towards achieving seamless connectivity is palpable.

In essence, the commencement of underground construction activities by Sam India Builtwell heralds a new chapter in Chennai's journey towards modernization, epitomizing a harmonious blend of tradition, innovation, and strategic collaboration in shaping the city's future.
