Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The tunenl boring machin (S-93) nicknamed "TBM Nana" has achieved its second tunnel breakthrough at Naveen Market stations of Kanpur Metro Rail project on 14th June 2023. This milestone was recorded by engineers of Gulermak and Sam India Builtwell on Kanpur Metro’s Chunniganj-Nayaganv underground section in 90 days. Now 'TBM Nana' reached reached Naveen Market from Chunniganj ganj after constructing a tunnel of approx 750 meters.
This was TBM Nana’s second breakthrough and the 3rd of 8 tunnel breakthroughs planned on the Kanpur Metro’s 3.619 km tunneling package KNPCC-05 connecting Permat Ramp to Nayaganj Station of Corridor 1.
The TBM Nana was launched through the launching shaft at Chunniganj on 12th March 2023 and in just 3 months' time the TBM reached the Navaen Market Metro Station by fixing 523 rings in the up-line tunnel. Now, this TBM will be dragged through the Naveen Market Underground Metro Station from one end to another end and will be launched again towards the Bada Chauraha Metro Station. Besides, in the underground stretch of Chunniganj to Naveen Market, Tatya TBM is constructing the down-line tunnel and has installed 323 rings out of 520.
“The pace of tunnel construction in Kanpur Metro is commendable. Completing the up-line tunnel construction between Chunniganj & Naveen Market in just 3 months the team has proven its efficiency and dedication. We firmly believe that this pace of construction will continue in the further sections of the corridor-I (IIT to Naubasta) and the construction works will be timely completed,” commented Sushil Kumar, managing director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation.
