Under ground construction works begins on Corridor 1 of Kanpur Metro

Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Kanpur Metro today successfully entered into a new phase of Metro construction under the leadership of Kumar Keshav, Managing Director, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC). Keshav inaugurated the construction work on the 3 KMs long underground stretch between Kanpur Central and Transport Nagar of the Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta). After the pooja ceremony, the D-wall cage was lowered at the Jhakarkati Metro Station. Three underground Metro Stations are to be constructed under this section viz. Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati & Transport Nagar.

Expressing happiness on this occasion, Kumar Keshav said, “Kanpur Metro is moving towards a new phase with the commencement of construction works on the underground section between Kanpur Central & Transport Nagar as this stretch is one of the busiest routes of the city and covers several prominent places. Construction works are already being executed on the underground section between Chunniganj & Nayaganj. It is my firm belief that our team will continue this dedication and the decided targets will be achieved in the stipulated time.”

Presently, passenger services of Kanpur Metro are operational on the 9 KMs long Priority Section (IIT- Motijheel). Under the 23 KMs long Corridor-I (IIT-Naubasta), beyond Motijheel Metro Station; the underground stretch of the corridor is being constructed in two phases; the first one is comprising Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha & Nayaganj Metro Stations; and the second one is comprising Kanpur Central, Jhakarkati, and Transport Nagar Metro Stations. After this 7KMs long underground section, around 5KMs long section between Baradevi and Naubasta will be elevated.
