Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant move for the Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has invited tenders for the civil construction work of Package KNPCC-12 and KNPCC-14 for construction of elevated section and one metro car depot.
This package, covering a stretch of 8.38 km on Kanpur Metro Line-2 (Agriculture University – Barra-8), marks a crucial phase in the expansion of Kanpur's metro network.
Package KNPCC-12, spanning 4.3 km, is part of the larger 32.38 km Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project. It consists of two disjointed sections on either side of the underground Package KNPCC-11. The southern section, with a viaduct of 3.745 km, will connect Double Pullia Ramp and Barra-8, featuring four elevated stations at Vijay Nagar Chauraha, Shastri Chowk, Barra-7 Station, and Barra-8. The northern end, past Rawatpur Interchange Station, includes a small 557.8m viaduct with one elevated station at Agriculture University.
The estimated cost for this elevated contract is Rs 484 Crore, with a deadline set at 30 months. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for November 28, 2023, and the bid submission deadline is December 26 at 3 PM. The scope includes the design and construction of the elevated viaduct and five elevated stations, along with architectural finishing, E&M work, and special spans.
Simultaneously, UPMRC has invited bids for the civil construction and system installation work at Kanpur Metro Phase 1 project’s Agriculture University Depot & Workshop (Package KNPCC-14). This marks a crucial step in establishing a vital train maintenance facility for Line-2.
The depot, located on a 37.69-acre parcel within Chandra Shekhar Azad University of Agriculture & Technology, will serve as a maintenance hub for Alstom MOVIA train-sets operating on Kanpur Metro’s Line-2. This line, spanning 8.38 km from Agriculture University to Barra-8, will feature eight stations.
The estimated cost for Package KNPCC-14 is Rs 113.20 Crore, with a deadline set at 18 months. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for November 23, 2023, and the bid submission deadline is December 11 at 3 PM. The comprehensive scope includes civil, PEB, and E&M works for the construction of the depot cum workshop.
With these recent tender invitations, Kanpur Metro Phase 1 is advancing steadily towards its completion. The elevated contracts for KNPCC-12 and the construction of the Agriculture University Depot under KNPCC-14 are integral components in expanding the city’s metro network. As the bidding process progresses, these developments mark significant strides in enhancing Kanpur's urban mobility.
