AECOM appointed as Detailed Design Consultant for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3A

Ahmedabad, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRC) has appointed global infrastructure consultancy AECOM as the Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for the upcoming Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3A/B1 project. The contract was signed last week, marking an important step towards the detailed planning and design of the next phase of Ahmedabad’s expanding metro network.

The consultancy assignment covers two key components of the proposed Phase 3A/B1 network, including a 10.3-km metro stretch and an 8-km Metro-cum-RRTS corridor. The project is expected to strengthen connectivity across Ahmedabad while supporting the integration of metro and regional rapid transit services.

AECOM to Undertake Detailed Design Consultancy

Under the DDC assignment, AECOM will undertake detailed design consultancy for key corridors planned under Ahmedabad Metro Phase 3A/B1. The attached project communication identifies the Thaltej Gam to Canal Road corridor and the Godhavi to Canal Road Metro-cum-RRTS hybrid corridor among the components covered by the consultancy.

The assignment will involve detailed design and engineering work required to take the proposed corridors towards implementation. Such consultancy work forms an important stage between project planning and construction, covering the technical development of infrastructure and systems required for execution.

The project graphic also highlights AECOM’s previous association with GMRC, including its involvement in the SYSTRA–RITES–Oriental–AECOM joint venture, which has served as General Consultants for Ahmedabad Metro Phase 1 and Surat Metro.

Strengthening Ahmedabad’s Future Transit Network

Ahmedabad Metro has been expanding its role as a major urban public transport system, while the proposed Metro-cum-RRTS corridor is intended to provide a higher level of regional connectivity. The integration of these two forms of rail transport could support seamless movement between urban and regional destinations.

The Phase 3A/B1 development is therefore positioned as part of Ahmedabad’s broader efforts to build a more connected and sustainable public transport network. The planned infrastructure is expected to support growing mobility requirements and improve connectivity across developing areas of the city and its surrounding region.
