Taipei, Taiwan (Metro Rail Today): Construction has commenced on the second phase of Taipei MRT's Light Green Line, extending from Zhonghe Senior High School to Huilong. Spanning a distance of 13.3 kilometers, the majority of this line will be elevated, with a 2.84-kilometer underground section closest to central Taipei, incorporating two stations.
Reports from local media indicate that the entire route, also referred to as the Wanda - Zhonghe - Shulin Line, is slated for completion by 2031. The first phase, covering a 9.5-kilometer underground stretch from Chiang Kai-shek (CKS) Memorial Hall to Zhonghe Senior High School, including a branch to Juguang, is currently in progress and is set to be finalized next year.
The transition from underground to elevated track will occur near the Mingde Road junction. Once the entire line becomes operational, the travel time from the Shulin district to Taipei and New Taipei's core areas is projected to decrease by 30 minutes, as stated by Mr. Lee Cheng-an, head of New Taipei's Department of Rapid Transit Systems, in discussions with local media.
This new line is envisioned to connect New Taipei's Tucheng, Shulin, and Xinzhuang districts, facilitating seamless interchange with three other MRT lines: the Blue Line, Orange Line, and Brown Line at Tucheng and Huilong stations.
