Four firms bid to supply 12 trainsets for Bangalore Metro Rail Project Phase 2

Bengaluru, India (Metro Rail Today): As per industry sources, four Rolling Stock firms have submitted their bids for the Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of 72 Nos. of Standard Gauge Metro Cars and Training of Personnel under Phase 2 of Bangalore Metro Rail Project.

The names of bidders are as under:-

  • Alstom Transport, India Ltd
  • BEML Ltd
  • Mitsubishi Electric
  • Titagarh Wagons Ltd

Tender notice (contract package 6RS-DM) for the supply of 72 Rolling Stock coaches (12 trains with 6 cars) was issued in April 2022 with a 243-week (4.66 years) delivery deadline.

Earlier, a contract worth Rs 854.95 crore was awarded to Chinese Rolling Stock firm CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd for the supply of 216 new coaches for Phase 2 of Bangalore Metro but the firm has failed to supply trains to Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) despite frequent notices and warnings. CRRC had committed to supply these coaches from its new proposed metro coach facility centre in Sricity, Aandhra Pradesh.

CRRC has tried to tie up with Titagarh Wagons Limited but failed to do so. CRRC Nanjing Puzhen Co. Ltd is a subsidiary company of CRRC Corporation Ltd.

According to the terms of the tender notice, the successful bidder was two options to execute the order. Either they establish their own factory to produce the cars or partner with a domestic company to ensure timely delivery. Despite fulfilling the conditions, CRRC had moved the Karnataka High Court seeking an injunction to restrain BMRCL from encashing two cheques given as bank guarantees of USD 57,12,162 and Rs 85.49 crore.

The coaches under contract package 6RS-DM will be deployed exclusively on the 19.143 km Yellow Line (Reach 5) which will connect RV Road – Bommasandra through 16 stations.
