Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) has reached another significant milestone in the ongoing construction of the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, part of Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project. Completing the casting of all pre-cast structures—U-girders, I-girders, double T-girders, and pier caps—along this approximately 5 km section marks a crucial accomplishment. These structures undergo pre-casting at the Naubasta casting yard before being skillfully erected at designated locations within the corridor, facilitated by cranes.
The final U-girder, numbered 348th, was recently cast at the Naubasta Casting Yard of the Kanpur Metro. Preceding this achievement, all pier caps and double T-girders had been cast by March 2024, followed by the completion of all I-girders by April 2024. This concludes the casting process for all 348 U-girders, 64 I-girders, 264 double T-girders, and 186 pier caps essential for the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, achieving a full 100 per cent completion.
Expressing happiness on this significant milestone, Shri Sushil Kumar, Managing Director of UPMRC, remarked, "The civil construction endeavours for the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of the Kanpur Metro project are advancing swiftly. Completion of casting of all pre-cast structures—pier caps, U-girders, I-girders and double T-girders, among others—at the Naubasta casting yard signifies our commitment to expeditious yet quality-driven construction practices. Embracing pre-cast structures in our elevated infrastructure enables accelerated progress while ensuring uncompromised quality. Following the successful launch of commercial service on the priority section (IIT to Motijheel) within the stipulated timeline in December 2021, we are diligently advancing on the remaining sections of Corridor-1."
Currently, alongside the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section, part of Corridor-1 (IIT to Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, construction is swiftly advancing on two underground sections: Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar and Chuniganj-Nayaganj. Additionally, construction has also commenced on the Rawatpur-Double Pulia underground section of Corridor-2 (CSA to Barra-8).
