Tejasvi Surya, the Lok Sabha member representing Bengaluru South, announced on Thursday that the first train for the Yellow Line is ready for dispatch and will arrive in Bengaluru during the first week of January. Surya explained that the delays in the project were primarily due to the unavailability of trains, but noted significant progress in the manufacturing process.
Train Manufacturing Process Accelerated
Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Surya shared an update, revealing that he had been actively following up with Titagarh Rail Systems, the train manufacturer, to expedite production. "Over the last few months, I have been continuously following up with Titagarh Rail Systems to speed up the train manufacturing process. Many roadblocks, including visa issues for engineers, have been addressed," he wrote.
He further added, “Titagarh has now set up a dedicated line for manufacturing trains specifically for the Bengaluru Metro. The first train will be dispatched on January 6, and the second is expected by the end of January or the first week of February. The third train will arrive in April, with subsequent deliveries ramping up to one train per month, increasing to two trains per month by September."
BMRCL’s Efforts to Prevent Future Delays
Surya also highlighted that he had requested the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) to visit the manufacturing plant on January 6 to officially approve the first train for dispatch. In addition, he urged Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) to ensure all necessary safety approvals, including those from the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS), are completed promptly to avoid any further delays.
Key Stations on the Yellow Line
The Namma Metro Yellow Line will serve several key areas, including BTM Layout, Silk Board Junction, and Electronics City, which are major commercial and residential hubs. With smoother connectivity and reduced travel times, the new line is expected to bring relief to commuters, especially those working in the city’s tech sector.
A Promising Step for Bengaluru’s Public Transit
As the first train of the Yellow Line prepares for its inaugural journey, Bengaluru’s metro system inches closer to fulfilling its promise of better urban mobility. The line is expected to significantly improve traffic flow, enhance connectivity, and provide much-needed infrastructure to the city’s growing population.
With the operational launch just days away, Bengaluru commuters are eagerly awaiting the convenience and reliability the Namma Metro Yellow Line promises to bring.
