Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) has celebrated the first anniversary of Kanpur Metro operation with joy and enthusiasm in Kanpur on 28th December 2022. To mark the celebration, eminent personalities of the city visited the Kanpur Metro photo exhibition and enjoyed metro ride.
To celebrate the first anniversary of metro rail services in Kanpur, various programs were organized at Motijheel metro station. UPMRC has organised special metro ride for the children of the housekeeping staff along with the guests.
On 28th December 2021, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the commercial services of the Metro on the 9-km priority section of the Kanpur Metro between IIT-Kanpur and Motijheel. It was a glorious first year for Kanpur Metro and the metro services received immense support and cooperation from the people of the city.
The series of programs were started at 11.30 am from Motijheel Metro Station. The programmes were graced by distinguished guests namely Abhay Karandikar, Director, IIT-Kanpur; Professor Shamsher, Vice Chancellor, HBTU; Gopal Sharma, former Indian cricketer; Pallavi Dubey, Regional Director, CLE and Journalists. The photography exhibition of photographs related to Kanpur Metro, taken by local journalists of Kanpur was inaugurated at Motijheel Metro Station.
The phase 1 of Kanpur Metro Rail project will cover a total network of 32.4 kilometres with two corridors. The 23.8 km long corridor 1 (Orange Line) will connect IIT Kanpur to Naubasta with 21 stations. Out of, 9-km stretch (IIT Kanpur to Motijheel) is operational since 28th December 2021. The corridor 2 (Blue Line) will cover a total distance of 8.6 km and it will connect Agriculture University to Barra 8 with eight metro stations. Construction of remaining part of Corridor 1 is on full swing.
The Kanpur Metro is known as fastest metro rail project in terms of completion of construction of 9-km priority section on ahead of scheduled time.
Recently, the 23.8 km long Corridor 1 has received ISO certification for Health-Safety and Environment management during the civil construction of the corridor. The corridor has received ISO 45001:2018 for ‘Occupational Health & Safety Management System’ and ISO 14001:2015 for ‘Environmental Management System’, valid till May 2024.
The cost of construction is estimated at Rs 11,076.48 crores for two lines in Kanpur Metro Phase I.
