Kanpur Metro completes piling works for Baradevi-Naubasta elevated stretch

Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant accomplishment, the Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Ltd. (UPMRC) has successfully concluded piling work for the approximately 5 km long Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of Corridor 1 (IIT-Naubasta) under the Kanpur Metro Rail Project. The last piling work was executed near Baudh Nagar station on the night between Sunday and Monday, marking the completion of all 1153 piles for the mentioned elevated section.

Piling, involving ground excavation and iron net placement for foundation establishment, sets the groundwork for the structure. Following the piling, pile caps are cast, covering groups of 3-6 piles, and metro corridor pillars are subsequently constructed on these caps.

Commending the metro engineering team for this achievement, UPMRC Managing Director Sushil Kumar expressed, "The civil construction of the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section of the Kanpur Metro Project is progressing rapidly. We have now completed all 1153 piling works for this section, and the casting of all pile caps will be completed soon."

The construction of the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section commenced on August 8, 2022. The first Pier Cap was erected on December 27, 2022, and the first U-girder on January 21, 2023. Notably, the first Cross Arm at the under-construction Naubasta station was constructed on November 10, 2023. Additionally, the erection of Double T-girders at the Baradevi station in this section has also been accomplished.

Presently, under Corridor 1 (IIT-Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project, rapid construction progress is evident not only on the Baradevi-Naubasta elevated section but also on the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar and Chunniganj-Nayaganj underground sections.

The timely progress reflects UPMRC's commitment to providing efficient metro services to the city residents, following the successful initiation of commercial service on the Priority Section (IIT to Motijheel) in December 2021.
