Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The roof slab casting of the under-construction Kanpur Central Metro Station of Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar underground section under the Corridor-1 (IIT Kanpur - Naubasta) of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project commenced from today.
Roof slab casting started at Kanpur Central Metro Station late on Friday night after a formal pooja ceremony. This Metro station will be 3.50 meters below the ground.
The construction works of the said underground section were started from the date- 09.06.2022. In this 3 km approx. long section three underground Metro stations; Kanpur Central, Jhakarkatti and Transport Nagar Metro stations are to be constructed. The details of the stations of the said section are as follows:
Congratulating the team of civil engineers on the occasion, Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC said, “We had set a record by completing the 9 km long Priority section from IIT to Motijheel well ahead of schedule and now aim to complete the entire 23 km long corridor from IIT to Naubasta as well on the stipulated time. At present the construction work on the entire balance section is progressing at a brisk pace".
"After Jhakkarkatti Metro Station under the Kanpur Central-Transport Nagar section, now the casting of the roof slab has commenced at Kanpur Central Metro Station as well. Soon tunnelling work will also commence in this section. Every day a large number of people reach Kanpur Central Railway Station for travel. Keeping in view their convenience, the Kanpur Central underground Metro station will be directly connected to the railway station. This will save the time of the people of Kanpur and they will be able to take advantage of the safe and comfortable ride of Kanpur Metro in maximum numbers," he added.
The underground Metro stations of Kanpur Metro will be constructed using top-down method i.e. construction work will be done from top to bottom. After the roof slab is ready, the concourse level and then the platform level will be constructed. This method is being adopted to minimize the impact of traffic on the station under construction as after the construction of the first floor, starting from the road level, the barricading on the road will be reduced. The construction work of the station below the road will continue and the movement of vehicles on the road will also continue smoothly.
