Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major development for Mumbai’s expanding metro network, Leena Powertech Engineers Pvt. Ltd. has received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) for executing the electrical works of Mumbai Metro Lines 9 and 7A — both key extensions of the city’s Red Line.
The contract, valued at ₹118.2 crore, covers the design, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of major electrical systems, including 33 kV and 25 kV cabling, overhead catenary systems, auxiliary power distribution, and a complete SCADA system for the two corridors.
The Mumbai Metro Line 7A extends from Andheri (East) to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport, while Line 9 connects Dahisar (East) to Subhash Chandra Bose Stadium via Mira-Bhayandar. Together, these extensions enhance the reach of Mumbai’s 16.5 km Red Line, linking major commercial, residential, and airport zones in the western suburbs.
The MMRDA invited bids for the electrical works on 29 December 2023, with a project completion timeline of 1,640 days (approximately 4.5 years).
Technical bids were opened on 23 July 2025, during which four firms submitted proposals.
Following evaluation, two firms qualified for the financial round.
On 29 October 2025, Leena Powertech Engineers Pvt. Ltd. emerged as the lowest bidder (L1) and was issued the Letter of Award on the same day.

This crucial package will provide the power backbone for the extended metro corridors, ensuring reliable energy supply and system automation for uninterrupted train operations.
“This award marks an important milestone in Mumbai’s metro electrification journey,” said Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group. “Projects like Metro Line 9 and 7A are vital for connecting dense urban clusters and major transport hubs. The integration of efficient power systems will play a pivotal role in achieving reliable, energy-efficient, and sustainable metro operations.”
Once operational, Lines 7A and 9 will enhance last-mile connectivity to Mumbai Airport and suburban areas, easing road congestion and significantly cutting travel times.
The MMRDA’s continued focus on timely contract awards reflects its commitment to accelerating Mumbai’s metro expansion, which aims to build a 337-km metro network by the end of this decade.
