New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has taken a significant step forward in its Phase-V expansion by floating a tender for the appointment of a Detailed Design Consultant (DDC) for the Central Vista Depot, a key infrastructure component linked to the expanding metro network.
The proposed depot will be developed adjacent to the Majlis Park station on Line-8 (Pink Line) and will serve as a crucial operational hub for the upcoming corridors under Delhi MRTS Phase-V. The scope of the consultancy includes architectural as well as electrical and mechanical (E&M) design works, covering both at-grade and elevated depot structures.
With a tender value of approximately ₹3.19 crore, the project marks an important milestone in the preparatory phase of the Central Vista Metro expansion. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for April 9, 2026, while bid submissions will close on April 23, 2026, followed by the opening of bids on April 24, 2026.
The Central Vista Depot is expected to play a vital role in train stabling, maintenance, and operational management, directly influencing the efficiency and capacity of the adjoining metro corridors. Its design will be critical in ensuring long-term scalability and smooth operations as ridership demand increases.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “The appointment of a Detailed Design Consultant at this stage reflects DMRC’s structured approach toward infrastructure development. Depot design is a critical component that determines operational efficiency, maintenance planning, and future scalability of metro systems.”
As Delhi Metro continues to expand into new corridors under Phase-V, the need for well-integrated depot infrastructure becomes increasingly important. The Central Vista Depot will support operations on one of the most strategically significant sections of the network, particularly given its proximity to key administrative and urban zones.
The inclusion of both ground-level and elevated design components indicates a complex engineering requirement, aimed at optimising land use in a dense urban environment while maintaining high operational standards.
The move also signals that DMRC is actively progressing with the engineering groundwork and detailed planning for Phase-V projects, which are expected to further enhance connectivity across the national capital.
Sharing his perspective, Dr. Vinod Shah, Director General, Indian Chamber of Railway Industries (Rail Chamber), said, “Depot infrastructure is the backbone of any metro system, ensuring reliability and operational continuity. Early-stage design planning, as seen in this tender, is essential for delivering efficient and future-ready urban transit networks.”
With the tender now floated, the focus will shift toward selecting a qualified consultant capable of delivering high-quality, integrated design solutions for the depot. This step reinforces DMRC’s commitment to timely execution and technical excellence in its expansion plans.
As Delhi Metro continues to evolve as one of the world’s leading urban transit systems, projects like the Central Vista Depot will play a crucial role in supporting seamless, efficient, and sustainable metro operations in the years ahead.
