Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has awarded a contract worth Rs 100 crore to chinese firm Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co. Ltd. for supply of platform screen doors (PSD) for 26.1 kilometres Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Rail Project Phase 2 connecting Light House to Poonamallee Bypass in Chennai.
"Chennai Metro Rail Limited has awarded the Contract Package ASA-10 for supply of Platform Screen Doors (PSD) for its Corridor 4 of phase 2 project to M/s Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co. Ltd. for a value of INR 100 Crores. This work is funded by New Development Bank," said Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (Systems and Operations), Chennai Metro Rail Limited.
The work includes half height Platform Screen Doors for 18 Elevated stations from Poonamalle to Kodambakkam power house and Full Height Platform screen doors for 9 Underground stations from Light House to Kodambakkam. The Platform Screen Doors will be operated automatically by the driverless Signalling system of Corridor 4.
Tender notice for Design, Manufacture, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Platform Screen Doors for Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro was issued in May 2022 with 2245 days (6.15 years) work completion deadline. A totalof 4 firms Zhuzhou CRRC Times Electric Co., Ltd, Fangda Innotech Co. Ltd, ST Engineering Electronics Ltd and RT Vision – Dongwoo Pvt. Ltd. JV were participated in this contract package.
The Platform Screen Doors provide additional safety for passengers. It also improves the Air conditioning at Underground stations by preventing the cool air from escaping to the tunnels.
The Platform Screen Doors contracts for remaining corridors 3 & 5 are in the process of finalisation.
