Kanpur, India (Metro Rail Today): The long-awaited expansion of the Kanpur Metro Rail Project is on the verge of launching its extended passenger services from Motijheel to Kanpur Central. As part of the final preparations, a team from the Commissioner Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) arrived in Kanpur today for a crucial second round of safety inspections, a mandatory step before metro services can officially begin.
A six-member CMRS team traveled from Delhi to conduct a detailed review of the metro section between Motijheel and Kanpur Central, which includes a close inspection of the tracks, tunnels, and stations. The team will spend the next two days evaluating the safety standards of the newly constructed metro line, ensuring it meets all operational and safety requirements. This inspection follows an initial review conducted in late February.
The next phase of inspections will include a comprehensive safety evaluation by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety. The CMRS team will assess the safety measures in place across metro stations and trains, ensuring the well-being of passengers once operations begin.
Upon successful completion of these assessments and the subsequent issuance of a No Objection Certificate (NOC), the much-anticipated expansion of Kanpur Metro services will officially be launched.
The extension will add five new stations—Chunniganj, Naveen Market, Bada Chauraha, Nayaganj, and Kanpur Central—integrating them into the existing metro network. This expansion is set to significantly enhance connectivity across the city, providing a safer, more convenient, and affordable travel option for commuters between IIT Kanpur and Kanpur Central.
