Ujjain, India (Metro Rail Today): Before Simhastha 2028, the Ujjain will be connected with a Mass Rapid Transit System/Regional Rapid Transit System, said Narottam Mishra, Cabinet Minister - Home, Parliamentary Affairs & Law Department, Government of Madhya Pradesh. "Good news for the devotees of Mahakal. Now Indore Metro will run till Ujjain, which will facilitate the devotees going for Mahakal darshan. Ujjain will get metro facility before the upcoming 2028 Kumbh Mela," he said.
This will facilitate the crowd coming to Ujjain Simhastha from across the country to reach Indore from Ujjain and Ujjain to Indore. On 7th September 2022, the team of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has commenced feasibility study surveyed from the vacant government land near Government Engineering College for depot in Ujjain. However, at present, feasibility survey on issues like railway traffic between Ujjain-Indore, traffic diversion in MRTS, where and how many stations, connectivity is going on. It will be clear only after the survey report that what will be the cost of Ujjain-Indore RRTS Corridor. To complete the feasibility study and detailed project report on time and implement the project, the state government has already sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore.
It is worth mentioning that in the past, the Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan has also announced to run Metro Rail between Ujjain-Indore before Simhastha. Let us inform that till a few months ago, the decison on planning of BRTS and RRTS was stuck in crossing the road between Ujjain-Indore at high speed. It has been proposed to develop RRTS as it is the most appropriate and best way to cross this road of about 50 km at a high speed. The Madhya Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (MPMRCL) has handed over the survey of the entire area including traffic survey to DMRC. Complete information about the feasibility of metro project or RRTS will be available only after the preparation of feasibility study report. Due to this, the officials are not able to clarify anything as of now when the work will start and how much it will cost.
"The feasibility survey is currently going on. It is difficult to tell the cost right now due to paths like where to go from below, to go from above, under ground. It will be clear only after the survey report of DMRC. After the report is processed, DPR is prepared, after the sanction, the work will start after the funding of the state and central government. It is certain that RRTS is to be built between Ujjain-Indore, but when the work will start, nothing can be said yet," commented Shobhit Tandon, Additional Director, MPMRCL.
To increase the scope of metro rail or RRTS, Sanwer and its adjoining areas will be made metropolitan area between Indore-Ujjain. Mandideep (Bhopal) and Sehore will also be included in this scope. Its proposal has been sent to the Urban Administration and Housing Department, which will be placed in the cabinet meeting. This exercise will take place in the third phase. Indore-Ujjain, Mandideep and Sehore near Bhopal will be connected either by metro rail or RRTS.
