Global tender floated for Rolling Stock and Systems for Mumbai Metro Line 6

Mumbai, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant move towards advancing Mumbai's metro connectivity, the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reissued tenders for Mumbai Metro Line 6. The project, spanning from Swami Samarth Nagar in Andheri Lokhandwala to Vikhroli, Eastern Express Highway (EEH), includes the procurement of rolling stock, signalling and train control systems, telecommunications, carshed machinery, and platform screen doors.

The decision to re-issue the tender comes after the cancellation of the previous procurement attempt due to MMRDA's non-compliance with mandatory guidelines set by the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) in the tender document. Additionally, concerns were raised regarding the proposed Kanjurmarg depot land ownership, necessitating a reevaluation of the tendering process.

The current tender, valued at Rs 2064.63 crore, encompasses the design, manufacturing, supply, testing, commissioning, and maintenance of essential metro infrastructure. Interested bidders are required to submit their proposals by April 2nd, 2024.

The elevated Mumbai Metro Line 6, stretching over 15.31 km, has already achieved over 60 percent completion. The project, with an estimated cost of Rs 6,716 crore, is funded through the National Development Bank (NDB). The timeline for completion is targeted for November or December 2024. The state initially approved the elevated metro line 6 in 2017, aiming to enhance public transportation and alleviate congestion in key areas.

MMRDA's proposal to procure 108 standard gauge cars (coaches) for Mumbai Metro Line 6 remains a key component of the revitalized tender. The reissued tender aims to address previous issues, ensuring compliance with guidelines and facilitating smoother project execution.

The re-issuance of tenders for Mumbai Metro Line 6 signifies a commitment to overcoming challenges, ensuring transparency, and advancing crucial infrastructural developments that contribute to the city's modernization and enhanced transportation networks.
