Haryana approves Spur Line connecting Gurugram Metro from Sector 5 with Railway Station

Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): The Haryana government has finalised the proposal to construct a metro spur line between Sector 5 and Gurugram Railway Station, a move expected to significantly enhance last-mile connectivity and boost ridership in one of the National Capital Region’s fastest-growing transit corridors.

Officials confirmed on Tuesday that the proposal has been cleared by the Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) board and will soon be forwarded to the Haryana State Government and the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA) for final approval.

“There was no provision for the spur line to the railway station and a separate depot in the original Detailed Project Report (DPR). Now a supplementary DPR has been submitted, and the board has agreed to the construction. The matter will be sent to the government for final clearance. The link will greatly improve accessibility for passengers and enhance ridership potential,” said a GMRL official.

Improving Last-Mile Connectivity

The new spur line aims to provide a seamless link between the city’s metro system and the Gurugram Railway Station, improving accessibility for daily commuters and intercity travellers. Once approved, the metro spur will be included in the Phase 2 tender of GMRL’s metro expansion project.

Initially, the Haryana government had planned to connect these key transport nodes through a skywalk with escalators, but after further assessment, a dedicated metro spur line was found to be a more efficient and sustainable long-term solution.

The spur line, which serves as a branch from the main metro route, will help decongest city roads and reduce travel times, aligning with the state’s vision of developing a smart, multi-modal urban transport network.

Phase 2 Expansion and Future Plans

The upcoming metro spur is part of a broader expansion plan under Phase 2 of the Gurugram Metro Project, which aims to connect dense residential and commercial zones. GMRL officials have also hinted that several new extensions will be announced in the coming months to strengthen connectivity and ease traffic congestion across the city.

The Haryana government, in collaboration with MoHUA, has been actively pushing for integrated transport solutions in Gurugram to complement the Delhi Metro and Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) corridors currently under development.

Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, Managing Director & CEO of Urban Infra Group, said:

“The addition of a metro spur to Gurugram Railway Station is a strategically sound decision that reflects a deep understanding of commuter needs. Integrating metro and rail services not only boosts ridership but also creates a unified, efficient mobility ecosystem—an approach every modern city should embrace.”

With the final clearance expected soon, the Gurugram Metro spur line will bridge a critical connectivity gap in the city’s transport infrastructure. Once completed, it will offer faster intermodal transfers, greater commuter convenience, and improved public transport integration, further cementing Gurugram’s position as a model for sustainable urban mobility in India.
