New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): In a groundbreaking development, Jaya Verma Sinha has been appointed as the Chairperson of the Railway Board, marking her as the first woman to take the helm of this esteemed institution in its remarkable 118-year history. The government's decision to appoint Ms. Sinha to this pivotal role solidifies her position as a trailblazer in the realm of railway governance.

Taking charge as Chairperson of the Railway Board, Ms. Sinha will assume her responsibilities on or after September 1, a significant moment that sets her on a transformative journey. Previously serving as the Member (Operations and Business Development), she has already showcased her leadership acumen during critical situations, particularly when handling the aftermath of the tragic Balasore accident, which claimed the lives of 291 individuals.

The appointment of Jaya Verma Sinha as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Railway Board was officially approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC). Her tenure in this esteemed role is scheduled to continue until August 31, 2024. Notably, Ms. Sinha's dedication to her responsibilities led to a unique decision regarding her retirement date. Originally slated to retire on October 1, she will now be re-employed on the same day to ensure her steadfast guidance until the culmination of her tenure.

Holding an illustrious background, Jaya Verma Sinha's journey began at the Allahabad University, where she honed her skills and vision. Since joining the Indian Railway Traffic Service in 1988, she has been a force of innovation and progress, contributing her expertise to various railway divisions, including the Northern Railway, South Eastern Railway, and Eastern Railway. Notably, her remarkable tenure in the Centre for Railway Electrification (CORE) showcased her exceptional commitment to advancing railway technologies.

Beyond her national contributions, Ms. Sinha also served as the Railway Advisor in the High Commission of India, Dhaka, Bangladesh, leaving a lasting impact during her four-year tenure. Under her watch, the Maitree Express, connecting Kolkata to Dhaka, was inaugurated—a testament to her dedication to fostering international collaboration in the realm of railways. Her experiences also encompassed the role of Divisional Railway Manager, Eastern Railway, Sealdah Division, where her strategic vision continued to drive progress.
