Paris, France (Metro Rail Today): In a strategic move to strengthen its global capabilities in transportation systems, French engineering giant SYSTRA has announced the acquisition of Ardanuy Ingeniería, a leading Spanish consultancy known for its deep expertise in rail, metro, and urban mobility solutions. The acquisition was formalized on September 29, 2025, and marks a major step in SYSTRA’s mission to expand its footprint across Europe, Latin America, India, and the Baltics.
With over 350 new professionals joining the SYSTRA workforce through this deal, the company significantly boosts its technical depth, especially in the areas of rail systems, infrastructure design, and transport engineering. The newly acquired team enhances SYSTRA’s presence in high-potential markets like Spain, Portugal, Colombia, Chile, and India, allowing the firm to scale operations on major urban transit and high-speed rail projects.
“We are very pleased to welcome the teams from Ardanuy Ingeniería, with whom we share the same vision and passion for engineering,” said Jean-Charles Vollery, CEO of the SYSTRA Group. “This combination will enable us to deliver even greater value to our clients and to jointly take on ambitious projects.”
Ardanuy Ingeniería has worked on high-profile assignments, including metros in Madrid, Bilbao, Barcelona, Santiago, Bogotá, and Panama, as well as highway concessions and high-speed rail corridors across Spain and Portugal. The firm’s stronghold in Spanish-speaking markets and its complementary engineering capabilities will enhance SYSTRA’s overall service offerings, particularly in sustainable and high-performance transport infrastructure.
The acquisition follows SYSTRA’s recent integration of Subterra, another Spanish firm specializing in tunnel and underground structures, acquired in March 2023.
“Joining the SYSTRA Group makes perfect sense for our company,” said Carlos Alonso, CEO of Ardanuy Ingeniería. “We share the same passion for technical excellence. This union will provide new development perspectives for our teams and synergies for our clients.”
Ardanuy’s existing presence in India — where SYSTRA is already engaged in numerous metro and railway projects — will further consolidate the group's role as a key enabler of India’s smart urban mobility agenda. From Delhi Metro to the upcoming high-speed corridors, SYSTRA’s expanded expertise is expected to add significant value to national infrastructure initiatives.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, said: “This acquisition reinforces the industry’s commitment to global collaboration. SYSTRA’s growing capabilities in India will offer metro and rail agencies deeper technical support, fostering innovation and timely delivery of complex mobility projects.”
With over 11,000 employees operating in more than 80 countries, SYSTRA is among the world’s foremost engineering and consultancy firms specializing in public transport and mobility. The firm plays a critical role throughout the lifecycle of transport infrastructure — from early planning and design to deployment and maintenance — with 80% of its revenue generated internationally.
As cities worldwide push toward sustainable, connected, and inclusive transport systems, SYSTRA’s acquisition of Ardanuy Ingeniería positions the group to offer next-generation solutions that connect people and places — efficiently and reliably.
