Chennai, India (Metro Rail Today): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has issued a letter of acceptance / contract order worth Rs 1,134.11 crore to Rail Vikas Nigam Limited (RVNL) for the construction of 10-km elevated viaduct including 9 metro stations for corridor 3 of Chennai Metro Phase 2 under civil contract package C3-ECV-01/RT-01.
The scope of work includes design and construction of elevated viaduct (approximate length of 10 km), nine (9) elevated metro stations at Sholinganallur Lake, Ponniamman Temple, Sathyabama University, Semmancheri, Gandhi Nagar, Navallur, Siruseri, SIPCOT 1 and SIPCOT 2 and stabling viaduct at SIPCOT of Corridor 3 of Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2.
Tender notice for contract package C3-ECV-01/RT-01 was issued in March 2022 with an estimated cost of work Rs. 957.50 crore. Technical bids were opened in May 2022 and financial bids were opened on 28th October 2022. RVNL was emerged as lowest bidder.
The 45.8 km corridor 3 (Purple Line) is one of the three corridors of Chennai Metro's Phase 2 Project. This is stretches from Madhavaram Milk Colony to Siruseri Sipcot 2. The line will consist of 50 stations, out of which 30 are underground and 20 are elevated.
RVNL, Category-I Mini Ratna CPSE under the Ministry of Railways, is engaged in the business of implementing various types of Rail infrastructure projects assigned by Ministry of Railways including doubling (including 3rd/4th lines), gauge conversion, new lines, railway electrification, major bridges, workshops, production units and sharing of freight revenue with Railways as per the concession agreement entered into with Ministry of Railway.
