Siemens bags ₹773 Cr contracts for advanced CBTC & Telecom Systems of Nagpur Metro Phase 2

Nagpur, India (Metro Rail Today): Siemens Limited has secured two major contracts worth approximately ₹773 crore from Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (MAHA-METRO) for Nagpur Metro Phase 2. These contracts involve the implementation of cutting-edge Communication-Based Train Control (CBTC) signaling and advanced telecommunication systems, strengthening Siemens’ position as a leader in urban mobility solutions in India.

Nagpur Metro Phase-2 is a key infrastructure expansion project that spans 43.8 kilometers and includes 32 metro stations. The contract awarded to Siemens covers the complete design, manufacturing, supply, installation, testing, and commissioning of signaling and telecom systems. The project is expected to be completed within a period of 42 months.

The CBTC signaling system to be deployed by Siemens will allow real-time tracking and seamless communication between trains and the operations control center. This technology will help increase train frequency, enhance safety, and reduce human error. It also plays a critical role in improving punctuality and operational efficiency, ensuring that train services are smoother and more energy-efficient.

Alongside signaling, the advanced telecommunication system will enable a reliable communication backbone throughout the metro network. It will ensure uninterrupted coordination during both daily operations and emergency situations. Passenger information systems will also be integrated to provide real-time updates and improve the commuter experience.

Nagpur Metro Phase-2 is a strategically significant urban mobility initiative. It is designed to improve connectivity across vital corridors of the city and will serve as a model for metro projects in India’s Tier-2 cities. By leveraging Siemens’ global expertise in automation and digitalization, the project aims to elevate metro system performance to international standards.

“We are grateful to Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited for their continued trust in us. The project will contribute significantly to the sustainable urban development of Nagpur. It further demonstrates Siemens’ ability to deliver end-to-end mobility technologies that integrate automation, digitalization, and sustainability for India’s urban future. I would like to thank our dedicated teams whose unwavering efforts enable us to deliver world-class technologies,” commented Rajeev Joisar, Head of Mobility Business at Siemens Limited.

This dual contract award marks another milestone in Siemens’ continued involvement in India’s metro rail expansion. As the country pushes forward with the Smart Cities Mission and urban transport modernization, Siemens’ role in deploying advanced mobility solutions positions it at the forefront of this transformation.
