TRSL signs ₹857 crore contract to supply 72 coaches for Surat Metro Phase 1

Ahmedabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a significant development for Gujarat's burgeoning metro rail network, the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited (GMRCL) has joined forces with Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd (TRSL), formerly known as Titagarh Wagons Limited. This collaboration is set to pave the way for the manufacture of 72 standard gauge cars, a pivotal step in the Surat Metro Rail Phase 1 Project. Moreover, TRSL has also received a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) for the supply of 30 standard gauge cars, contributing to the Phase II expansion of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project. Contract Value and Timeline

The scope of this endeavor is substantial, with an estimated project cost of approximately Rs 857 crores. The contract's execution is slated to commence 76 weeks after its signing and is expected to culminate in 132 weeks. This ambitious timeline underscores the commitment to timely project completion.

The contract encompasses various facets, including the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of these state-of-the-art metro cars. Notably, the manufacturing hub for these metro cars will be TRSL's Uttarpara plant, located in the Hooghly district of West Bengal.

Surat Metro Project Phase I

The Surat Metro Rail Project, Phase I, is a monumental undertaking that spans two corridors, covering a total distance of 40.45 kilometers and boasting 38 stations. The estimated project cost for this transformative initiative stands at Rs 12,020 crores.

Sarthana-Dream City Corridor:  The first corridor, Sarthana-Dream City, extends over 21.61 kilometers and encompasses 20 strategically placed stations. This corridor is set to provide vital connectivity to numerous key destinations, including Gadhpur Township, Sarthana Nature Park, Nana Varachhe village, Kalakunj Junction, Kapodra, Puna village, Labheshwar Chowk area, Big Diamond Market, Retail Saree Market, Surat Railway Station, Muskati Hospital, Bhagal junction, Gandhi Bagh, Chowk Bazar, Majura Gate, Roopali Canal, Altha Treatment, Althan Gram, VIP road Women IIT, Bhimrad, Convention City, and Dream City.

Bhesan-Saroli Corridor:  The second corridor, Bhesan-Saroli, spans 18.74 kilometers and encompasses 18 metro stations. This corridor brings connectivity to several vital locales, including Bhesan Treatment Plant, International Cricket Stadium, SMC Botanical Garden, Palanpur, LP Savani School, Performing Art Centre, TGB Circle, Aquarium, Badri Narayan Temple, Star Bazar, Tapi River, Athawa Chopati, Majura Gate, UdhanaDarwaja, Kamala Darwaja, Anjana Junction, Parvat Patiya, Magub Village, Bharat Cancer Hospital, and Saroli.

In addition to the Surat Metro endeavor, TRSL secured a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from the Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase II Project in August 2023. This remarkable feat, valued at approximately Rs 350 crores, involves the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning, and training of 30 standard gauge cars, contributing to the expansion and enhancement of the Ahmedabad Metro network.

The collaboration between GMRCL and TRSL marks a significant milestone in the development of metro rail networks in Gujarat. With the Surat Metro Rail Phase I Project poised to enhance connectivity and transform the urban landscape, and the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Phase II Project set to bolster the existing metro infrastructure, these initiatives promise a brighter and more connected future for the people of Gujarat.
