UPMRC commences trail run on test track of Agra Metro's PAC depot

Agra, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) and Alstom have jointly conducted dynamic testing and trail run of first three-coach metro train on test track inside PAC Depot of Agra Metro Rail Project on 3rd May 2023. The train was ran on 700 metres test track at the speed of 10-20 kilometre per hour.

The team will inspect all equipment and systems during the testing. "Trials were done in two rounds of the first metro. The metro was run at a speed of 10 and 20 km per hour," said Sushil Kumar, Managing Director, UPMRC.

A total of three trainsets have now been delivered by Alstom to UPMRC for Agra Metro. A 7-km priority stretch connecting Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid with six stations is slotted to open to the public by December 2023.

There will be a total of 28 trains for Agra Metro and 6 trains for the priority corridor, initially. The metro trains for Agra Metro Project carry a distinct yellow colour and they are equipped with ultra modern technology and seamless design.

Here are some salient features of Agra Metro Train:-

  • These trains will have the feature of 'regenerative braking', with the help of which up to 35% of the energy generated through the brakes applied in the trains will be regenerated and used again in the system. State-of-the-art 'propulsion system' will also be present in these trains to reduce air pollution.
  • These trains will have carbon-dioxide sensor based air-conditioning system, which will run according to the number of passengers present in the train and save energy.
  • These trains will run with communication based train control system keeping in view the automatic train operation.
  • The passenger capacity of Agra Metro trains will be 974 passengers.
  • The design speed of these trains will be 90 km/h and the operation speed will be up to 80 km/h.
  • In the first and last coach of the train, there will be a separate place for the wheelchair for the disabled. There will be a 'Long Stop Request Button' near the wheelchair location, by pressing which PwD can inform the train operator to keep the door open for longer time so that they can get down from the train comfortably.
  • Fire extinguishers, smoke detectors and CCTV cameras etc. will also be installed in the trains.
  • Agra Metro trains will get power from third rail i.e. third rail running parallel to the tracks, so it will not require setup of poles and wires and infrastructure will look better and beautiful.
  • These trains are designed on the basis of state-of-the-art fire and crash safety standards.
  • Each train will have 24 CCTV cameras, whose video feed will directly reach the train operator and the central security room in the depot.
  • Each train will also have 56 USB charging points.
  • Each train will also have 36 LCD panels for infotainment.
  • Talk back button: Passengers can talk to the train operator in case of emergency by pressing this button. The location of the passenger and the CCTV footage will be displayed directly on the monitor near the train operator.

Agra Metro will have 2 corridors that will pass through the heart of the Taj city and will connect prominent tourist places including Taj Mahal, Agra Fort, and Sikandra as well as ISBT, Raja Ki Mandi railway station, Medical College, Agra Cantonment railway station, Collectorate, Sanjay Place, and surrounding densely populated residential areas.

The length of Sikandra to Taj East Gate Metro Corridor will be 14.00 km. This corridor is partly elevated and partly underground and comprises 13 stations (6-Elevated and 7-Underground).

The length of second corridor conencting Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar will be 15.40 km comprising 14 elevated stations.

The estimated cost of the Agra Metro Rail project is Rs 8,379.62 crore and the project will be completed in five years.
