Munich, Germany (Metro Rail Today): Siemens Mobility, in collaboration with Bilfinger UK, has clinched an eleven-year contract extension to maintain the infrastructure of Edinburgh Trams until 2035. This comprehensive contract encompasses the upkeep of approximately 18.5 kilometers of track, including the recently extended network, ensuring the seamless operation of Edinburgh's tram services on a day-to-day basis.
The scope of this extension entails the continuous maintenance of critical components such as the overhead contact line system, track infrastructure, SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition), and signaling systems. These efforts are pivotal in upholding the safety and efficiency of Edinburgh's tram network, supporting uninterrupted commuter services.

The £44.7 million contract extension is expected to sustain around 22 jobs at Siemens Mobility's Edinburgh base, with additional roles anticipated, including technicians and apprenticeships. Siemens Mobility has been actively involved in maintaining Scotland's capital's tram infrastructure since 2014, playing a pivotal role in the recent expansion of the network to Newhaven, marking a significant milestone in Edinburgh's transportation landscape.
Beyond its contributions to Edinburgh Trams, Siemens Mobility maintains a significant presence in Scotland, employing over 250 individuals. Its involvement spans various railway projects across the country, including signaling technology upgrades at key locations like Carstairs and the establishment of the new Inverness Airport Railway Station using modular signaling. Additionally, Siemens Mobility is responsible for maintaining ScotRail's Class 380 trains, serving vital routes connecting Ayrshire to Glasgow, Edinburgh, and beyond.
