New Delhi, India (Metro Rail Today): National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) has issued a single tender enquiry to M/s BEML Limited for the design, manufacture, supply, testing, commissioning and comprehensive maintenance of rolling stock and allied works for the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail (MAHSR) corridor.
The invitation, released on February 28, 2026, follows a single-stage two-envelope bidding procedure under Package No. MAHSR-BRS-1. The package covers the complete lifecycle of high-speed trainsets, from detailed design and manufacturing to testing, commissioning and long-term maintenance support.
The tender under Package MAHSR-BRS-1 has been invited exclusively from BEML Limited. The bid submission window is scheduled from March 11 to March 16, 2026, between 09:00 and 15:00 hours, with the technical bids set to be opened on March 17, 2026 at 15:00 hours.
The bid document cost has been fixed at ₹59,000 (including GST, non-refundable), while bidders are required to submit a bid security of ₹36 crore through physical submission.
The scope of work includes the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of high-speed rolling stock, along with comprehensive maintenance services. The contract forms a critical component of the Mumbai–Ahmedabad High Speed Rail project, ensuring operational readiness and lifecycle reliability of trainsets.
The Mumbai–Ahmedabad corridor is India’s first bullet train project, spanning 508 kilometres with 12 stations. It is designed to connect Mumbai, the country’s financial capital, with Ahmedabad, Gujarat’s commercial hub. The corridor is being developed with Japanese Shinkansen technology and is expected to operate trains at speeds of up to 320 kmph. The first section of the corridor is anticipated to become operational by August 2027.
The decision to invite a single tender enquiry indicates a strategic procurement approach, potentially aimed at strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities in high-speed rolling stock.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “Inviting BEML for the rolling stock package reflects a strong push toward indigenisation and capability building in India’s high-speed rail ecosystem. Developing domestic expertise in design, manufacturing and long-term maintenance of bullet trainsets will be a crucial step in scaling future high-speed corridors across the country.”
The rolling stock package is expected to play a pivotal role in ensuring safety, performance and operational efficiency as India prepares to launch its first high-speed rail services.
