Bangalore Metro floated tender for 13.8-km Phase-3 Double-Decker Rail Infrastructure

Bengaluru, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) has invited bids through two major tenders with a combined estimated value of ₹2,811.75 crore for the development of double-decker metro infrastructure and seven metro stations under Bengaluru Metro Phase-3.

The two tenders, valued at ₹1,415.65 crore and ₹1,396.10 crore, respectively, cover a combined length of approximately 13.80 km. The contracts represent a major construction opportunity for qualified metro contractors, EPC companies, civil infrastructure firms and railway infrastructure specialists.

Major Civil Infrastructure Packages

The Phase-3 tenders focus on the construction of double-decker metro structures, a design approach that enables metro infrastructure to share a common elevated corridor with road infrastructure. Such integrated structures are particularly relevant for Bengaluru, where limited road space and high traffic volumes make conventional standalone infrastructure challenging along several major corridors.

The two packages together cover approximately 13.80 km and include the development of seven metro stations. The large-value contracts are expected to involve substantial civil and structural engineering works associated with elevated metro infrastructure and station development.

The tenders have been issued by BMRCL as part of the wider Phase-3 programme aimed at expanding Namma Metro's network and improving connectivity across Bengaluru.

₹2,811.75 Crore Opportunity for Metro Industry

The combined tender value of ₹2,811.75 crore makes these among the significant upcoming civil construction packages associated with Bengaluru Metro Phase-3.

The first tender has an estimated value of ₹1,415.65 crore, while the second is valued at ₹1,396.10 crore. Together, they provide substantial opportunities for companies with expertise in elevated metro construction, large-scale concrete and steel structures, station construction, viaduct works and associated railway infrastructure.

Phase-3 to Expand Namma Metro

Bengaluru Metro Phase-3 is part of BMRCL's broader strategy to expand the reach of Namma Metro and provide stronger connectivity to major residential, commercial and employment areas.

The adoption of double-decker structures on selected sections reflects the need to develop metro infrastructure within Bengaluru's existing urban environment while addressing road congestion and right-of-way constraints. By combining different transportation infrastructure elements within the same corridor, the approach can potentially reduce the requirement for additional land compared with separate infrastructure corridors.

The new tender packages will therefore be important not only from a construction perspective but also in demonstrating how integrated urban transport infrastructure can be implemented in a heavily congested metropolitan environment.
