Global tender issued for procurement of 60 Rolling Stock coaches for Hyderabad Metro Rail Project

New Delhi, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited international competitive bids for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of 60 standard-gauge metro coaches for the Hyderabad Metro project. The estimated contract value is ₹923.62 crore, excluding GST, and includes comprehensive maintenance of the trains and associated depot equipment for 15 years.

The tender, identified as HRS1, covers the supply of rolling stock, training and long-term maintenance support. The procurement is aimed at supporting the Hyderabad Metro project through the deployment of new rolling stock and the provision of maintenance services to ensure operational reliability over the contract period.

According to the Notice of Invitation to Tender, the procurement will be conducted through an open international competitive bidding process under a two-bid system, comprising technical and financial bids.

DMRC to Manage Procurement on Behalf of Hyderabad Metro

Hyderabad Metro Rail Limited (HMRL) is the project owner, with the proposed financing coming from the Government of Telangana. Under the established arrangement, Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL) has an agreement with HMRL to undertake the procurement process and implement the contract. DMIL has subsequently engaged DMRC to execute the work.

DMRC, a joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi, will act as the project implementation agency, purchaser and employer for the procurement.

The estimated contract cost stands at ₹923.62 crore, inclusive of applicable taxes and duties except GST. Bidders must submit tender security of ₹1 crore, while the non-refundable cost of the tender documents has been fixed at ₹23,600.

Comprehensive Maintenance for 15 Years

Beyond manufacturing and supplying the 60 standard-gauge cars, the contract includes testing, commissioning and training, along with comprehensive maintenance of the rolling stock and associated depot facilities.

The maintenance scope covers depot machinery and plants, special tools, jigs and fixtures, testing and diagnostic equipment, test benches and material-handling equipment. These facilities are essential for maintaining train availability, supporting scheduled inspections and addressing technical issues throughout the trains’ service life.

The original completion schedule provides 125 weeks for design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning, followed by a 24-month defects liability period. If the quantity variation option is exercised, the completion period will increase to 128 weeks.

The defects liability and maintenance period for each trainset will extend to 15 years from the date of its taking-over certificate, with the defects liability period forming part of the overall maintenance period.

Tender documents are available through the Government of India’s Central Public Procurement Portal from October 16, 2026, to January 13, 2027, until 3:00 pm IST.
