New Delhi, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has invited international bids for the design, manufacture, supply, testing and commissioning of 102 standard-gauge metro coaches for Corridors 1 and 2 of the Patna Metro project. The tender also covers associated training, spare parts and defects liability provisions, marking a significant procurement step in the development of the city’s urban rail network.
The tender, identified as PRS1, has been published under DMRC’s JICA tender category through the Government of India’s Central Public Procurement Portal. The procurement will follow an open tender process with separate technical and financial bids. The estimated contract value has not been disclosed in the published tender summary.
The selected contractor will be responsible for delivering the rolling stock and associated services in accordance with the technical specifications and contractual requirements set out by DMRC.
The procurement covers 102 standard-gauge cars intended for Corridors 1 and 2 of the Patna Metro network. Modern metro coaches are a critical component of urban rail systems, influencing passenger capacity, service reliability, accessibility and overall travel experience.
The scope includes design, manufacturing, supply, testing and commissioning, along with training, spare parts and defects liability arrangements. These provisions are intended to support the deployment of the new trains and address technical issues during the applicable defects liability period.
The rolling stock contract will be an important element in preparing the Patna Metro corridors for passenger operations. Coordinating train delivery with the readiness of tracks, stations, signalling, power supply and depot facilities will be essential to the timely introduction of metro services.
DMRC has invited eligible bidders to participate in the tender through a two-cover submission system. The first cover comprises technical and qualification documents, including the technical bid, bid security and tender fee receipts, powers of attorney and other prescribed forms. The second cover contains the financial proposal.
The tender fee has been fixed at ₹23,600, while the earnest money deposit (EMD) is ₹1 crore. The bid validity period is 180 days. Detailed eligibility requirements, technical specifications and contractual conditions are available in the official tender documents.
The tender was published on October 15, 2026, and the document download period is scheduled to remain open until January 5, 2027, at 3:00 pm. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for November 20, 2026, at 11:00 am, with participation through video conference or in person at DMRC’s office at NBCC Place, Pragati Vihar, New Delhi.
The clarification window closes on November 30, 2026, at 5:00 pm. According to the published tender summary, the bid opening is scheduled for January 6, 2027, at 3:05 pm.
The tender summary contains an apparent discrepancy in the bid submission deadline, listing January 5, 2026, at 10:19 am, despite the tender being published in October 2026. Bidders should verify the correct submission deadline directly on the official e-procurement portal and in the tender documents before submitting their bids.
The procurement is expected to support the next stage of Patna Metro’s development by advancing the acquisition of trains needed for its two corridors. The final award, manufacturing schedule and delivery of the coaches will be important milestones in bringing the city’s metro network closer to passenger operations.
