GMRC issues ₹683 crore Tender for construction of 8.68 km stretch for Ahmedabad Metro

Ahmedabad, India (Rail & Metro Today): Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Ltd. has invited tenders for the construction of an 8.68-kilometre elevated metro corridor between Naranpura and Nehrunagar in Ahmedabad, including five elevated stations. The project carries an estimated cost of ₹683.05 crore, excluding taxes, and is scheduled for completion within 32 months.

The tender, issued under Notification No. GMRC/CONS/STNS+VDCT-5/2026, forms part of the ongoing development of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project. The proposed corridor will add elevated viaduct infrastructure and station facilities to the city’s expanding mass rapid transit network, supporting improved public transport connectivity across the urban area.

GMRC has invited open tenders from eligible applicants meeting the qualification criteria specified in the Notice Inviting Tender (NIT). The successful contractor will be responsible for executing the civil infrastructure works in accordance with the technical specifications and contractual requirements.

Naranpura–Nehrunagar Corridor to Add Five Stations

The proposed 8.68-kilometre elevated section will connect Naranpura with Nehrunagar and include five elevated metro stations. The infrastructure is intended to support the continued expansion of Ahmedabad’s metro network and improve access to rail-based public transport for commuters along the corridor.

Elevated metro construction remains an important approach for expanding urban rail capacity while reducing the need for extensive underground excavation. Such projects, however, require careful coordination of viaduct construction, station development, traffic management, utility shifting and public safety measures, particularly in built-up urban areas.

The 32-month completion period will require effective project planning and coordination between the contractor, GMRC and other relevant agencies. Timely execution will also be important for integrating the new infrastructure with the wider metro network and its operational systems.

Tender Value and Important Dates

The estimated contract value is ₹683.05 crore, excluding taxes. GMRC has fixed the non-refundable tender document fee at ₹50,000, inclusive of GST, and the tender security at ₹6.83 crore.

Tender documents are available through the nProcure e-tendering portal from October 7 to November 21, 2026, until 3:00 pm. The last date for submitting queries and clarification requests is October 20, 2026, at 5:00 pm. The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for October 21, 2026, at 11:30 am, through video conferencing or online participation.

The deadline for submitting technical and financial bids is November 21, 2026, at 3:00 pm. The technical bids, including tender fee and tender guarantee documentation, are scheduled to open at 3:30 pm on the same day. The opening date for financial bids will be communicated separately to technically qualified bidders.

Strengthening Ahmedabad’s Urban Transport Network

The Naranpura–Nehrunagar tender represents another significant civil works package in Ahmedabad’s metro development programme. As urban travel demand increases, expanding metro infrastructure can help provide dependable alternatives to road-based transport and improve connectivity between residential, commercial and institutional areas.

The project’s eventual contribution will depend on timely construction, effective coordination and integration with the wider metro system. The appointment of a qualified contractor will be an important next step towards delivering the proposed elevated corridor and its five stations.
