Ahmedabad, India (Rail & Metro Today): Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) Ltd. has invited tenders for the construction of a 4.84-kilometre elevated metro corridor, including five elevated stations, as part of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project. The estimated cost of the work is ₹438.94 crore, excluding taxes, with the project scheduled for completion within 32 months.
The tender, issued under Notification No. GMRC/CONS/STNS+VDCT-6/2026, covers the elevated viaduct section from Veer Sawarkar Sports Complex to Arihant Nagar. The contract is expected to advance the expansion of Ahmedabad’s metro infrastructure and strengthen connectivity for commuters in the areas served by the proposed alignment.
GMRC has invited open tenders from eligible applicants meeting the technical and qualification requirements specified in the tender documents. The procurement covers the construction of the elevated viaduct and five stations, which will form an important part of the city’s expanding urban rail network.
Elevated metro corridors play a significant role in expanding urban rail networks in densely populated cities, where acquiring land for underground infrastructure or additional road space can be challenging. By providing dedicated, high-capacity public transport infrastructure, metro projects can help improve travel reliability and offer an alternative to private vehicles.
The 4.84-kilometre section covered by the latest GMRC tender will include five elevated stations. The successful contractor will be required to complete the work within the stipulated 32-month period, subject to the contractual conditions and project requirements.
The construction programme will require coordination across civil engineering, station development, viaduct construction, safety management and other associated activities. Timely execution will be important to ensure that the new infrastructure can be integrated with the wider Ahmedabad Metro system.
The approximate cost of the contract is ₹438.94 crore, excluding taxes. GMRC has fixed the non-refundable tender fee at ₹50,000, inclusive of GST, while the tender security has been set at ₹4.39 crore.
Tender documents are available online through the nProcure e-tendering portal from October 7 to November 21, 2026, until 3:00 pm. The deadline for submitting queries and seeking clarifications is October 20, 2026, at 5:00 pm.
The pre-bid meeting is scheduled for October 21, 2026, at 11:30 am through video conferencing or online participation. Technical and financial bids must be submitted electronically by November 21, 2026, at 3:00 pm. The technical bid, including tender fee and tender guarantee documents, is scheduled to open at 3:30 pm on the same day. The date and time for opening financial bids will be communicated later to technically qualified bidders.
The latest tender reflects the continuing development of Ahmedabad’s metro infrastructure through investments in elevated corridors and station facilities. As the city grows, expanding reliable public transport will be important for improving accessibility, supporting economic activity and managing increasing travel demand.
The project’s progress will depend on the appointment of a qualified contractor, timely construction and coordination with the existing metro network. Once completed and integrated into the operational system, the new infrastructure is expected to contribute to Ahmedabad’s broader urban mobility objectives.
