Tel Aviv, Israel (Metro Rail Today): NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd., the government-owned company spearheading mass transit development in the Tel Aviv metropolitan region, is hosting dozens of leading international and local contractors at a Participants’ Conference in Tel Aviv this week. The event provides potential bidders with key information required to qualify for upcoming tenders under the government-funded $50 billion Tel Aviv Metro project.
The Tel Aviv Metro is among the largest and most complex transportation projects currently being undertaken worldwide. More than 550 representatives from over 60 major infrastructure companies across 21 countries are attending the three-day conference, expressing interest in competing for the Metro’s Infra #1 tenders, valued at approximately NIS 65 billion. The strong turnout reflects significant global confidence in the project and in Israel’s long-term economic resilience.
During the conference, NTA presented detailed planning and execution models for the Metro project. Participants also engaged in meetings with senior NTA leadership and representatives from relevant government ministries. On February 23, delegates toured key infrastructure sites across the Tel Aviv metropolitan area, including sections of the operational light rail system. The site visits showcased NTA’s accumulated expertise and execution capabilities in delivering large-scale urban transit projects.
In a video message, Israel’s Minister of Transportation, Brigadier General (Res.) Miri Regev, described the Metro as a historic initiative aimed at enabling citizens to shift from private vehicles to accessible, affordable and user-friendly public transport. NTA CEO Itamar Ben-Meir emphasized that the Metro is a national undertaking that will reshape the country’s future, inviting top global firms to become long-term partners in what he termed a transformative milestone in Israel’s infrastructure history. NTA Chairwoman Yodfat Afek-Arazi highlighted the project’s broader economic and social significance, noting that it will drive productivity, strengthen national resilience and enhance quality of life for millions in the coming decades.
The fully underground Metro network will comprise three interconnected lines—M1, M2 and M3—spanning approximately 150 kilometers of route and around 300 kilometers of tunnels. The system will include 109 underground stations, four depots and seven major transport hubs. Designed as a fully automated, driverless system (GoA4), the Metro is expected to serve nearly two million passengers daily upon completion, significantly increasing public transport adoption and easing congestion in the Tel Aviv metropolitan area.
The project is set to transform mobility in Israel’s financial and technology hub, reinforcing Tel Aviv’s position as a global innovation center while advancing sustainable urban development.
Established in 1997, NTA Metropolitan Mass Transit System Ltd. is a government-owned company responsible for planning, developing and delivering mass transit solutions in the Tel Aviv metropolitan region. In addition to leading the Tel Aviv Metro, NTA oversees the Tel Aviv Light Rail network and is at the forefront of Israel’s largest infrastructure initiative, working in collaboration with global partners to reshape the country’s urban mobility landscape for generations to come.
