Pune, India (Metro Rail Today): Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has signed a contract agreement with Apurvakriti Infrastructure Private Limited for the design, supply, installation, testing and commissioning of standard gauge ballastless track on the elevated section between PCMC and Nigdi under the North–South Corridor Reach-1 Extension of the Pune Metro Rail Project. The contract is valued at ₹44.05 crore, including GST, under Tender Notice Number P1A-T01/2025.
The scope of work covers the complete ballastless track system for the elevated stretch, including the supply of 1080 Grade Head Hardened (HH) rails conforming to international standards, track fastenings and ancillary components, as well as 1 in 9 and R300 ballastless turnouts for track configurations. The contract also includes installation, testing and commissioning of the entire track infrastructure, along with associated civil and miscellaneous track works.
Ballastless track systems are increasingly preferred in metro rail projects due to their durability, lower maintenance requirements and enhanced ride quality, particularly in elevated and high-traffic sections.
The PCMC–Nigdi extension forms part of the ongoing expansion of Pune Metro’s North–South Corridor, also known as the Purple Line. At present, the operational stretch runs from PCMC Bhawan to Swargate, covering approximately 14.66 kilometres with 14 stations in service.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “The deployment of ballastless track technology on the PCMC–Nigdi extension reflects Maha Metro’s focus on long-term asset reliability and reduced lifecycle maintenance. High-quality track systems are fundamental to ensuring operational safety, passenger comfort and sustained performance as the network expands.”
The award of this contract marks steady progress in extending metro connectivity toward Nigdi, further strengthening public transport infrastructure in the Pimpri-Chinchwad region.
