Ahmedabad, India (Metro Rail Today): SYSTRA India has secured a new Detailed Design Consultancy (DDC) contract for the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project Phase-2 extensions, reinforcing its long-standing partnership in the development of Gujarat’s expanding urban transit network.
The latest contract covers two strategically important metro extensions aimed at improving regional connectivity, strengthening airport access, and supporting the rapid growth of GIFT City, India’s premier financial and smart city hub.
Having earlier contributed to the successful delivery of the original Ahmedabad Metro Phase-2 design works, SYSTRA India will now continue its engineering and design support for the next phase of expansion, further consolidating its role in India’s urban mobility transformation.
The awarded Detailed Design Consultancy package includes engineering and design services for the following elevated metro extensions:
The Airport Link corridor is expected to significantly improve direct metro connectivity to Ahmedabad Airport, enhancing passenger convenience and reducing dependence on road-based travel. The corridor will also strengthen multimodal integration and support faster commuter movement between key city zones and the airport.
The GIFT City extension is designed to support the growing transportation demands of Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), India’s first operational smart city and international financial services hub. The extension is expected to improve connectivity for thousands of professionals, residents, and visitors travelling to the rapidly developing business district.
Ahmedabad Metro has emerged as one of India’s fastest-growing metro systems, playing a crucial role in reducing congestion, promoting sustainable transportation, and supporting urban expansion across the Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar region.
The Phase-2 network is particularly important as it connects major economic, residential, institutional, and transport hubs, including:
The new extensions are expected to further enhance the metro system’s role as the backbone of regional public transport infrastructure in Gujarat.
SYSTRA India has been actively involved in several major metro rail and urban transit projects across the country, providing consultancy, engineering, systems integration, and project management services.
The latest Ahmedabad Metro assignment further strengthens the company’s presence in India’s rapidly expanding metro rail sector, where multiple cities are investing heavily in sustainable urban mobility infrastructure.
In its official statement, SYSTRA India said the project reflects its continued commitment to delivering excellence in design and engineering while contributing to the development of integrated, efficient, and environmentally sustainable transportation systems.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said:
“Ahmedabad Metro’s continued expansion towards critical destinations like the airport and GIFT City reflects the growing importance of integrated urban mobility infrastructure in India’s economic development. Projects like these are not only improving commuter convenience but are also strengthening sustainable urban growth and regional connectivity.”
