GHV India awarded ₹107.79 crore Civil Contract for Lucknow Metro East-West Corridor

Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): In a major boost to the expansion of Lucknow Metro’s East-West Corridor, Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation (UPMRC) has awarded a ₹107.79 crore contract to GHV (India) Private Limited for the construction of a modern Depot-cum-Workshop facility at Vasantkunj on Hardoi Road. The project is expected to strengthen Lucknow Metro’s operational infrastructure and support the next phase of urban transit growth in the city.

The award marks another important milestone in the development of Lucknow Metro’s expanding network and will play a central role in supporting future train operations, rolling stock maintenance, inspection activities, and long-term system reliability for the upcoming East-West corridor.

Under the contract, GHV India will execute a comprehensive package involving civil, architectural and system-related works for developing the integrated depot infrastructure. The execution timeline for the project has been fixed at 18 months.

The scope of the package includes construction of structural and architectural facilities, plumbing and water supply systems, sewage and drainage infrastructure, external development works, internal roads, electrical and mechanical installations, HVAC systems, firefighting arrangements and pre-engineered building (PEB) structures required for depot operations.

Once completed, the Vasantkunj depot will function as the operational backbone of the East-West Metro Corridor by enabling train stabling, preventive and corrective maintenance, inspection activities and ensuring operational readiness of metro services.

The project highlights UPMRC’s continued focus on building world-class urban mobility infrastructure across Uttar Pradesh and accelerating metro connectivity in emerging urban centres. Modern depot infrastructure remains a critical component of metro projects globally, ensuring higher operational efficiency, reduced downtime, improved asset life and enhanced commuter service reliability.

The East-West Corridor is expected to significantly improve intra-city connectivity across Lucknow, reduce pressure on road-based transportation and promote sustainable mobility solutions for the city’s growing population.

This development also reflects the broader momentum of metro rail investments across India’s tier-2 cities, where expanding transit infrastructure is increasingly being positioned as a driver of economic growth, urban transformation and improved quality of life.

Commenting on the broader significance of metro infrastructure expansion in India, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said:

“Metro depots are often less visible than stations and corridors, but they are the operational heart of every metro network. Investments in modern maintenance and operational facilities ensure long-term reliability, safety and efficiency while supporting the sustainable growth of urban mobility ecosystems across Indian cities.”

In a related development, the Uttar Pradesh Cabinet recently approved the transfer of 550 square metres of Nazul land to UPMRC for development activities under Agra Metro Corridor-2, connecting Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, which is expected to further accelerate metro implementation in the state.

With construction expected to begin shortly, the Vasantkunj Depot project is set to become a critical enabler for the successful delivery and future operation of Lucknow Metro’s East-West expansion corridor.
