Lucknow, India (Metro Rail Today): The Uttar Pradesh Metro Rail Corporation Limited (UPMRC) has announced Ranjit Buildcon Limited as the lowest bidder (L1) for a major civil construction package of the Lucknow Metro Phase-1B project. The contract is valued at approximately ₹383.98 crore and marks another important step in the expansion of Lucknow’s urban transit network.
According to the tender results, Ranjit Buildcon Limited emerged as the lowest bidder with a quoted value of ₹383.9 crore, while PNC Infratech Limited submitted a bid of ₹442.5 crore. The bid submitted by LCC Projects Limited was rejected during the technical evaluation stage.
The tender, floated in January 2026, covers the design and construction of the elevated viaduct section from Thakurganj Metro Station to Vasantkunj Metro Station. The package includes approximately 4.6 km of elevated metro viaduct, along with a 740-metre ramp connecting the viaduct to the depot entry and exit lines.
The scope of work also includes the construction of five elevated metro stations at Thakurganj, Balaganj, Sarfarajganj, Musabagh and Vasantkunj. In addition to civil works, the contract comprises architectural works, pre-engineered building (PEB) structures, water supply systems, sanitary installations, drainage systems, external development works, firefighting arrangements, and electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems.
The total contract duration for execution has been fixed at 2,738 days. Groundwork and major construction activities for the Phase-1B corridor are expected to commence from June 2026.
Lucknow Metro has already earned recognition as the fastest constructed metro rail project in India. The operational Phase-1A Red Line currently serves the city’s key urban stretches, while the upcoming Phase-1B corridor is expected to significantly improve connectivity toward the western parts of Lucknow.
The second corridor of Lucknow Metro spans around 11.16 km from Charbagh to Vasant Kunj. The route includes approximately 4.286 km of elevated section and nearly 6.879 km of underground alignment. The corridor will feature a total of 12 stations, including seven underground stations and five elevated stations.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “The progress of Lucknow Metro Phase-1B reflects the growing momentum of metro rail expansion in Tier-2 cities across India. Such infrastructure investments are essential for building sustainable urban mobility ecosystems, reducing congestion, and enhancing the quality of life for citizens.”
Once completed, the expansion is expected to strengthen public transportation infrastructure in Lucknow, reduce road congestion, improve last-mile connectivity, and provide faster and more seamless travel options for commuters across the city.
