Riyadh, Soudi Arabia (Metro Rail Today): The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) has issued a public tender for the design and construction of a new metro station on Line 4 (Yellow Line) of the Riyadh Metro to serve the upcoming Expo 2030 site. The proposed station forms part of wider efforts to strengthen connectivity to the future Expo grounds and manage the anticipated surge in passenger volumes during the global event.
According to the tender notice, interested companies must obtain the bidding documents by 26 February 2026, while bid submissions are due by 3 May 2026 at 12:00 pm. The proposals will be opened later the same day.
The new station will be integrated into Line 4, a key east-west corridor within the Riyadh Metro network. The Yellow Line runs from King Khalid International Airport to the King Abdullah Financial District (KAFD) and further across major residential and commercial districts, linking several strategic urban hubs. The addition of the Expo-focused station is expected to enhance last-mile connectivity and improve access to the event venue.
The Riyadh Metro, one of the largest urban rail systems developed in a single phase globally, comprises six lines extending approximately 176 kilometres and serving 85 stations. The project is a cornerstone of Saudi Arabia’s Vision 2030 programme, aimed at modernising urban transport, reducing dependence on private vehicles, and lowering carbon emissions.
Saudi Arabia secured the right to host Expo 2030 in Riyadh following a decisive vote by the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE). The event is projected to attract millions of visitors and drive tourism, foreign investment, and economic diversification in line with the Kingdom’s long-term transformation agenda.
The tender for the new metro station underscores the government’s commitment to expanding public transport capacity ahead of Expo 2030. Alongside metro expansion, large-scale infrastructure upgrades across transport, hospitality, and urban development sectors are either underway or in advanced planning stages to support the international event.
Commenting on the development, Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO, Urban Infra Group, said, “Integrating dedicated metro infrastructure for mega-events like Expo 2030 reflects forward-looking urban mobility planning. Strengthening high-capacity transit systems ahead of global events not only ensures operational readiness but also leaves behind a long-term mobility legacy for the host city.”
With Expo 2030 preparations gathering pace, the new Yellow Line station is poised to play a critical role in shaping Riyadh’s event-ready and future-ready transport ecosystem.
