Govt of India allocates ₹628.32 crore additional fund for Patna Metro Rail Project

New Delhi, India (Rail & Metro Today): The Patna Metro project has received a significant financial boost with the Bihar government allocating ₹628.32 crore under the Central Government’s Special Assistance Scheme for Capital Investment (SASCI) for the financial year 2026-27.

The allocation is part of the overall ₹2,925 crore approved for Bihar under the scheme and is expected to accelerate construction of the Patna Metro Phase-I project.

₹628.32 Crore Allocated for Patna Metro

The Central Government sanctioned ₹2,628.32 crore to Bihar under the SASCI scheme on July 23, 2026, following which the state government earmarked ₹628.32 crore for the Patna Metro project.

Officials are expected to allocate additional funds to the project as work progresses, providing further support to the ongoing construction programme.

The Patna Metro project is being funded through a combination of government support and institutional borrowings. The financing structure envisages 20% contribution from the State Government, 20% from the Central Government and the remaining 60% through loans, including funding from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

Patna Metro Phase-I Progress Reaches 53%

According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA), the physical progress of the 32.5-km Patna Metro Phase-I project reached approximately 53% as of June 2026.

The project has also entered the operational phase. On July 2, 2026, metro services were extended to Malahi Pakri, expanding connectivity towards the busy Kankarbagh area of Patna.

Following the extension, the operational network crossed 6 km, covering five stations.

The latest funding allocation is expected to support the continued construction and development of the remaining sections of the Phase-I network.

Two Corridors Under Patna Metro Phase-I

Patna Metro Phase-I comprises a 32.5-km network with two corridors.

Line-1 (Red Line) will connect Danapur Cantonment with Khemni Chak, providing an east-west rapid transit connection across the city.

Line-2 (Blue Line) will connect New ISBT with Patna Junction, creating a north-south link through important parts of Patna.

Two interchange stations are planned at Khemni Chak and Patna Junction, allowing passengers to transfer between the two corridors.

At present, passenger services are operational on Line-2 between New ISBT and Malahi Pakri, covering five stations.

Funding to Support Faster Project Execution

The additional allocation under SASCI comes at an important stage of the Patna Metro project, with construction progressing across multiple sections.

With more than half of Phase-I's physical work reportedly completed, continued financial support will be crucial for maintaining construction momentum and completing the remaining infrastructure and systems works.

The ₹628.32 crore allocation is therefore expected to provide further financial flexibility to Bihar for advancing one of the state's most important urban transport projects and expanding modern mass rapid transit connectivity across Patna.
