Afcons Infrastructure launches final U-Girder for Package C1 of Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2

Ahmedabad, India (Metro Rail Today): In a celebratory moment for the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project, Afcons Infrastructure marked a significant milestone with the launch of the final U-girder for Package C1. This package, spanning 14.36 km and connecting Motera to GIFT City via GNLU, is a pivotal component of the 28.254 km Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 initiative.

The launch of the 574th U-girder for civil Package C1 occurred atop piers P4/7-8, utilizing a 20m long U-girder. This noteworthy achievement comes as part of Afcons Infrastructure's commitment to delivering the viaduct that connects Motera, GNLU, and GIFT City. The first U-girder for this package was launched in December 2021, setting the stage for subsequent successful milestones.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation (GMRC) awarded the construction contract for Package C1 to Afcons Infrastructure Limited in Q4 2020, setting a 30-month deadline. The scope of this package encompasses an 8.124 km elevated section with 274 spans, linking Motera Stadium to GNLU. Along this route, eight stations are being constructed at Koteshwar Road, Vishwakarma College, Tapovan Circle, Narmada Canal, Koba Circle, Juna Koba, Koba Gam and GNLU.

Additionally, Package C1 includes a 5.42 km section from GNLU to GIFT City, featuring a bridge over the Sabarmati River. Two stations, namely Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU) and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), are part of this section.

In December 2023, Afcons Infrastructure accomplished the launch of all 340 segments for the Sabarmati River Bridge near GIFT City. Currently, the construction focus includes a 303m long extradosed bridge over Narmada Canal, further contributing to the project's overall progress.

This recent U-girder launching activity marks the completion of this phase on two of the three civil packages integral to the Ahmedabad Metro Phase 2 project. Ranjit Buildcon had earlier completed the launching of girders on 6.478 km Package C1 (GNLU to Gandhinagar’s Sector-1) in October 2023.

VNC – KEC – Emrail JV has been actively engaged in track-installation work on both Package C1 and C2 since August 2023. The last image reveals tracks/rails lying on the viaduct, poised for installation.
