Sri City, India (Metro Rail Tday): Alstom Transport has commenced manufacturing of 78 Rolling Stock coaches (26 trains) for Corridor 4 of Phase 2 of Chennai Metro Rail Project at its Sri City, Andhra Pradesh.
CMRL had earlier signed a contract for supply of Metro trains for the Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Phase 2. The contract was awarded to Alstom Transport India Limited on November 17, 2022. This order was to Supply 26 Trainsets of three car configuration at a cost of Rs 946 crores. These trains are now being manufactured in the Alstom's Manufacturing facility located in Sri City, Tada.
CMRL Managing Director M.A. Siddique accompanied by Rajesh Chaturvedi, Director (System and Operations) along with A. R. Rajendran, CGM (Rolling Stock) and other Officials of Chennai Metro Rail Limited inspected the manufacturing facility of Alstom on 10th January 2023 and made assessment of the facilities available for production of the trains.
The Metro Trains for the Phase 1 of Chennai Metro Rail Project were also manufactured at the Sri City facility of Alstom.
The newly ordered Metro Trainsets for Phase 2 will have upgraded features along with Driverless Operation at Grade of Automation 4. Managing Director of CMRL appreciated the facilities available at the factory and asked to start the production as early as possible and deliver the trains early to the CMRL Phase 2 project.
The 26.1 km long Corridor 4 (Orange Line) is one of the three corridors of Chennai Metro Phase 2 Project. The under construction line stretches from Light House to Poonamallee Bypass with 30 stations, out of which 12 are underground and 18 are elevated.
