Gurugram, India (Metro Rail Today): The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) is likely to award the Detailed Project Report (DPR) preparation contract for two new metro corridors in Gurugram by next week, marking a key step toward expanding the city's urban transit infrastructure. The two upcoming metro lines—along Sohna Road and Sheetla Mata Road—are designed to improve east-west and north-south connectivity within the city and link major residential and commercial clusters to the broader NCR metro network.
The tender for selecting a consultant was floated on March 19, 2025, and HMRTC has received a single bid from RITES Ltd, a Government of India enterprise. Both technical and financial bids have been opened, and according to senior government officials, the work is likely to be awarded to RITES in the coming days.
The first proposed line will cover approximately 17 km, running from Bhondsi to Gurugram Railway Station, passing through:
Vatika Chowk
Subhash Chowk
Rajiv Chowk
Sadar Bazar
Gurugram Bus Stand
This corridor will strategically connect with:
The Delhi-Gurugram-Alwar RRTS at Rajiv Chowk
The approved metro extension from Millennium City Centre at Subhash Chowk
By tapping into these intermodal connections, the corridor is expected to reduce vehicular dependency on Sohna Road, one of Gurugram’s busiest and most congested routes.
The second line, stretching 13.6 km, will run from Golf Course Extension Road to Sector 5, with key stops proposed at:
Millennium City Centre Metro Station
Signature Tower Crossing
Rana Pratap Chowk
Atul Kataria Chowk
The alignment follows Sheetla Mata Road, an increasingly dense urban corridor, and will enhance access to inner Gurugram localities, including major office hubs and residential zones.
Mrs. Mamta Shah, MD & CEO of Urban Infra Group, praised the initiative, “These proposed corridors are crucial to making Gurugram a truly connected urban center. Integrating Sohna Road and Sheetla Mata Road into the metro network will not only decongest arterial roads but also offer sustainable, inclusive mobility for thousands of daily commuters.”
Officials highlighted that both corridors are part of the state government’s broader vision to expand the metro network to cover Gurugram, Manesar, and connect it more seamlessly with Delhi. The DPR will explore alignment feasibility, station locations, ridership estimates, and integration with existing and upcoming transport nodes.
A senior HMRTC official noted, “Our aim is to cover Gurugram’s most densely populated and high-traffic areas with reliable metro connectivity. This will significantly reduce the use of personal vehicles and promote public transport adoption.”
Once the DPRs are completed and approved, the projects will move into the next stages, including funding tie-ups, land acquisition, and detailed engineering design. Both lines are expected to be taken up as part of the next phase of Gurugram Metro expansion, building on the momentum of the recently launched Metro Extension Project from Millennium City Centre to Cyber City.
These corridors, when implemented, will significantly contribute to decongesting Gurugram’s traffic, boosting real estate values, and enhancing the city’s readiness as a next-gen urban hub within the National Capital Region.
